Hello
My name is Courtney Umphlett and I am the owner of Joyful Learning Studio. From the time I was 9, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I received my Bachelors in Music Education from Western Carolina University and will graduate with my Masters in Creative Education from WCU in 2027. I have always been a teacher that values the creative process and believe that students can achieve the most when we give them time to work through problems and ideas. Learning should not be rushed but instead should be open, welcoming, and joyful.

2011-2013: Front Ensemble Instructor with the Pride of the Mountains Marching Band
2012: Choir Teacher at Macon Middle School
2012-2023: Owner, Director, and Teacher at Wonderworks Learning and Arts Center
2014-2016: Music Teacher at Mountain Discovery Charter School
2016-2020: Being a mom and teaching private music lessons
2020-2022: Music Teacher at Early Learning Center at FUMC Sylva
2021-Present: Music Director at First Presbyterian Church of Sylva
2022-2025: Reading and Math Interventionist, Band Director, and Music Teacher at Scotts Creek Elementary

In addition to the above, I have experience teaching and leading children's choir, children's theater, youth orchestra, musical theater, math, reading, science, and baby and toddler music and art classes.
